Car Seats for Kids Program

Background: The Alabama Child Passenger Safety Law, Act 2006-623, requires all children up to age 15 to be in an appropriate restraint when riding most vehicles. Violations of the law may result in a $25 fine with $15 of each fine disbursed to The Alabama Head Injury Foundation to distribute vouchers for appropriate child passenger restraint systems to families of limited income.

Purpose:

The purpose of this program is to provide appropriate child passenger restraint systems including car seats and booster seats, at no charge to families in Alabama with limited income. AHIF is partnering with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) certified Child Safety Seat Inspection Stations across Alabama, where parents/guardians may receive an appropriate car seat or booster seat. In addition, Nationally Certified Safety Technicians will provide education to each caregiver about the correct use and installation of the seat issued.

Eligibility Criteria:

Inability to purchase a child passenger restraint system.
Demonstrated participation in a Public Assistance Program (WIC, Medicaid, Food
Stamps, All Kids/Caring Program for Children Health Insurance, etc.) administered in

Alabama, or similar evidence of financial need.
